The River: Writing Challenge Day 1

I just saw a writing challenge for January 2012, called The River of Stones which you can read about here.  I'm totally trying it.

January 1, 2012:  My early morning walks with my dog often find me reflecting on this and that.  It has been a weird winter here - hardly any snow to speak of, and I have been waiting to see how our little rescue dog - Lucky the ADD terrier mix - likes snow.  He is not fond of baths or heavy rain.  This morning we walked on very slippery roads and he tore through the yards with their measly 2 inches of snow.  It is apparent that he loves it.  I wonder how he will like it when the drifts are higher than his head.  I suspect he will crash into them with reckless abandon.  It reminds me to enjoy the good in things and not be afraid to crash into things with reckless abandon, assuming I will find them enjoyable.

  1. Lovely and very entertaining. I could see Lucky tearing through the snow and having a blast! Lucky you to have a pet like him. Great first start. I hope I do as well.

  4. My early morning walks with my dogs are the same: a chance for me to think and reflect and sometimes count my blessings, and other times to make a plan of how to tackle a project. Today I thought about the New Year and I couldn't help but smile at all the unfurled promise it holds. Happy New Year!

  5. Two things: ditto on the early morning walks with the dogs - the best time to breathe and notice the world at dawn and figure out the priorities for the day.
Second thing: I'm going to try the River of Stones too! What the heck. I like the focus on details -- I don't know how it will go but what the heck! I do like looking at details..... wish me luck!
